 TAJ MAHAL, AGRA

One of the seven wonders of the world 'The Taj Mahal' at Agra is undoubtedly a majestic creation of art and architecture. Taj Mahal erected in the memory of Shahjahan's beloved queen, Arjumand Banu Begum popularly known as 'Mumtaj Mahal', took 22 years for its completion. It has a basement inside which the real tomb of Mumtaj Mahal lies.

The area of the main building of Tajmahal is 313 squire feet. The highest dome of the building is 186 feet high. The doubled-layer domes and minerates are constructed in Iranian style. It is built of pure and finest quality marble from Makrana quarries. Its main building has a huge dome at the center standing on a rectangular platform with a lovely tomb building and four minarets. The delicate carving of marble into jalis done on the wall is worth seeing. These jalis also provide sufficient air and light into every part of the Taj Mahal. The relief stone carvings, ornamental designs, and calligraphy works add extra beauty to the walls. Apart from its own beauty, it is surrounded by big green lawns, flower beds, green trees, fountains, and lotus pools whose clear water mirrors the beauty of the Taj. Indeed it is this combination of the unmatched beauty of the Taj and its surroundings that makes it one of the most beautiful monuments of the world which attracts visitors from all over the world.
