MOTHER GODDESS
Mother Goddess is one of the best-preserved large-size terracottas from Mohenjo-Daro. It is a combination of folk realistic and stylish works in the terracottas medium. It is beautifully decorated with a variety of ornaments, which reflect the taste of people of that time.
Her forehead is with a fan-shaped structure that appears to be a special type of female ornament of that time. The figure is wearing a miniskirt with a broad belt to hold it in place. Her earrings, necklace, and hair lock are also remarkable. Her circular eyeballs which are very nicely pasted add life to the structure. Her pinched nose and sloppy forehead are in a straight line. The front part of her mouth is depicted by pasting clay on her face.
To show the bifurcation, a line mark is drawn between the upper and lower lips. Her right hand is broken at the shoulder and the left hand is shown hanging straight downwards. Really the artist who made the structure had paid special attention to its decoration, which made it very attractive and lively. Now it is a collection of the National Museum, New Delhi.
