PADMAPANI BODHISATTVA

The Boddhisatva Padmapani, a world-famous painting of Ajanta is in cave no-1. The Boddhisatva was called Padmapani because of the blue lotus in his right hand. In this painting, Boddhisatva is standing in an attractive pose. The expression of self-realization, renunciation, and asceticism on his face is nicely depicted. The painting has been done in bold lines and a beautiful color scheme. The other figures seem to revolve around him. From the waist, he is inclined slightly to the right side. This suggestion of grace is also visible through the tilt and the gesture of his hand. The elegant features like a high forehead and downcast eyes represent an impression of dignity and serene meditation. Both eyebrows join together. The high light on the cheek, nose, and chin, as well as on the arms and breast together with the warm colors and inward shading of outline give entireness to his appearance. Left-arm is tied with a beautiful ribbon. The high sapphire crown indicates his royal birth. He wears a pearl and sapphire necklace. The long strings of pearl over the left shoulder across the chest and falling over the right arm, are artistically painted.
