 ARTISTIC ASPECTS OF INDO-ISLAMIC ARCHITECTURE

The invasion of Muslims in India had an invigorating influence on Indian art and architecture. Muslim desire to expand Islam resulted in the construction of a number of mosques and tombs in the cities captured by them. Since Muslims were less in number and the majority were soldiers and not artists, Hindus were the actual builders of these mosques under Muslim supervision. Therefore, the traces of Hindu influence on these monuments in spite of Islamic designs could be discernible. Other than mosques and tombs, secular places and halls were also constructed.
